UM Coverage Requirements and Your Lake Worth Car Accident

As a an insured driver, you should be aware of the written requirements for uninsured motorist(UM) coverage in the event you find yourself in a Lake Worth car crash.  Florida statute requires written rejection of UM covearge or lower UM limits be on approved forms although some courts have held that an oral rejection is okay so long as the insurer proves the oral rejection or selection of lower UM benefits was made knowingly.

When selecting coverage for your car, be careful not to tell the insurance agent you want to reject UM coverage.  One Court held that an oral waiver of the written statement requirement requires proff of the oral rejection before delivery of the policy, not proof of what the named insured might have decided to do if it was offered.
